Universal Music Tribe ELP Reunion DVD review
0
Greg Lake is pudgy like the Pillsbury dough boy, Keith Emerson has a bit of a struggle knocking over his keyboard as a perennial part of the stage show, and when Carl Palmer pulls off his sweat soaked shirt to reveal his love handles, he looks like your weird uncle Henry. But none of that matters, because this is E, L freaking P. The masters of seventies whatever the hell it was rock, the combining of classical elements and rock, the brilliant, one of a kind sound that sold a zillion albums. And the thoughts of the three of them together again was enough to get many of us old fans lit up.
The resulting live concert contains everything a fan could want. The band reunited to celebrate their 40th Anniversary and headlined London’s first High Voltage Rock Festival. This was the historic moment when Emerson Lake and Palmer performed for the first time since 1998.

Voices from the past having a blast – Sun Herald
0This week, we’re kicking off with an Emerson, Lake & Palmer reunion concert filmed last year, followed by a career retrospective from Ben Folds. The third installment in the Johnny Cash Bootleg series just arrived as part of an 80th birthday campaign (Johnny would’ve turned 80 on Feb. 26, 2012) and The B-52s’ first official live album brings our musical adventure to a close.
The release date for this impressive DVD/Blu-ray is Aug. 23, but it came to me slightly later. One of the most impressive examples of classical-level virtuosity in a rock-band format, Emerson, Lake & Palmer (Keith Emerson/keyboards, Greg Lake/bass, guitar & vocals, and Carl Palmer/drums) bridged the worlds of classical music, jazz, pop, technology and theatrical showmanship impressively during their initial 1970-1977 run. They released six platinum albums during that time, as well. This show, filmed at England’s High Voltage Festival on Sunday, July 25, 2010, was their first reunion since 1998. Bonus material includes new interviews with Emerson, Lake and Palmer plus other principals. Emerson explains that due to festival time constraints, they were just getting into Palmer’s drum solo when a tech said “Seven minutes left!”
